What is CARA?
Community Addiction Recovery Association (CARA) was established in 1994 to provide acupuncture options for treatment in addiction recovery. In 1995 CARA joined with the Sacramento County Drug Court, providing acupuncture as treatment to court referred clients.
During the past decade CARA expanded it’s services to include nutrition, amino acids and other nutritional supplements, acupressure for trauma relief, and several forms of internationally recognized stress reduction techniques including tai chi, qi gong, aerobic exercise, and yoga. Over the years CARA has become a leading organization in applying this unique approach to supporting recovery.
Working collaboratively with treatment facilities, CARA goes on site and provides, in a group setting, adjunctive services that complement and support existing programs. This cost-effective service delivery system keeps the focus on providing supportive care and treatment readiness for clients already in treatment in a setting that is familiar and comfortable to them.
In 2004, CARA sponsored A Clean and Sober Brain: Nutrient Therapy for 21st Century Recovery, featuring Julia Ross, Director of Recovery Systems in Mill Valley, CA and author of The Mood Cure. Attendance was standing room only.
